From strategy to infrastructure
Roadmaps & Projects
The management project and community projects that turn BioBlock’s goals into standards, governance, and working technology.
Management projectMT — Management of a Decentralized Innovation Community (StEDI)Steuerung einer Dezentralen Innovationscommunity
StEDI creates an innovative, decentralized transfer space for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sustainable innovation in biotechnology. It is building a self-sustaining, transparent, and trustworthy platform for research and development based on Open Science principles.
Core activities
- Goal system and monitoring: define and adapt mission statements, KPIs, and monitoring for innovation processes.
- Strategy and program development: establish governance rules, business models, long-term sustainability, and an implementation roadmap.
- Communication and innovation management: strengthen internal and external communication, networking, and transfer of research into industry.
- IT infrastructure: build a scalable platform for blockchain technology and server-based applications, from requirements through verification and use cases.
Through close collaboration across science, industry, and society, StEDI promotes blockchain- and data-driven innovation and builds broad acceptance for the BioBlock approach.
Community project 01BloKSI — Blockchain Consortium as a Social InnovationBlockchain Konsortium als Soziale Innovation
BloKSI promotes new business models through secure exchange of FAIR data and knowledge services. Its blockchain-based infrastructure is designed to provide trust, traceability, and data privacy in bioprocess development.
The consortium jointly defines architecture, transaction logic, and digital processes. Its work includes cross-organizational FAIR data provision, experiment reproducibility, membership governance, a badging system for provenance, cloud infrastructure for data-intensive workflows, and a provenance collector for collaborative bioprocess development.
The roadmap addresses smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, platform scalability, and decision-making mechanisms that include customers, providers, and prosumers.
Community project 02dCoP — Decentralized Communities of PracticeDezentrale Communities of Practice
dCoP creates a connected and effective biotechnology community with robust structures and optimized processes. It develops standards and strategies for blockchain use in science and establishes common processes for the BioBlock platform.
The project focuses on meaningful, sustainable integration of blockchain technologies into scientific workflows, shaped around industry requirements and use cases. Its knowledge exchange platform supports FAIR data management and transparent, secure, and sustainable transfer—creating an environment in which access to knowledge and collaboration accelerate innovation.
Community project 03BeeFAIRChain — Blockchain-Supported Platform for Networked FAIR Data CollaborationBlockchain-gestützte Plattform für vernetzte FAIR-Datenkollaboration in der Biotechnologie
BeeFAIRChain is BioBlock’s central implementation and prototyping project. It translates the core platform components defined in CP1 into working technology while integrating the governance and community requirements developed in CP2.
The project is developing a prototype decentralized data-trading platform for biotechnology research data. It will demonstrate how FAIR-compliant data exchange, intellectual-property protection, and automated transactions can work together in a single technical solution.
Community project 04FAIR-PLAY@DRFZ — A Community Playground for FAIR Data Generation and Operationalization
FAIR-PLAY@DRFZ links BioBlock’s digital infrastructure with hands-on laboratory work. It moves beyond a platform for exchanging completed datasets toward a FAIR-by-design approach to generating experimental data.
Where CP3 supports the secure sharing of existing data, CP4 begins earlier in the data lifecycle. It aims to ensure that data are fully contextualized, reproducible, and FAIR from experiment planning through execution.
Community project 05BioBlock-bloxberg — Interoperable Identity, Governance, and FAIR Data Integration
BioBlock-bloxberg integrates BioBlock with bloxberg, the established blockchain infrastructure built by the research community. It creates a practical connection between the developing BioBlock ecosystem and an existing international network of research institutions.
